Head shots are not just for actors or creatives, any professional uses them for their Linkedin profiles, CVs, corporate and social media profiles etc. A professional head shot just puts you that much more ahead of the game.
So after being on both sides of the camera, here are 5 tips to get the best head shots.
Let me just start off by saying, I absolutely love hearing how couples met. How somehow, against a bunch of odds, peoples' paths can cross so perfectly. When I launched this competition, I asked people to share what has been their favourite moments with their loved ones. Pamela and Ade's story started long ago in school already.
As an entrepreneur, I regularly need new photos of myself for my brand and social media. And let me tell you, the first thing I stress about is what to wear. Like, can we all just please have a personal (free) stylist hehe? That would make my life SO much better.
So, I totally get it. And that's why I've compiled a couple of tips that are essential for making sure your photos look fantastic. Planning well for what to wear makes a massive difference to the end product.
Without further ado, here are very essential dos and don'ts for what to wear:
DON'T
Avoid wearing white as it overexposes photos. This means that it makes photos way too bright.
Also avoid wearing black as it underexposes a photo. This means that it makes photos way too dark.
Avoid wearing neon colours and crazy stripes or patterns.
Try not to wear colours that are exactly the same as your skin tone - we want you to stand out!
DO
The best idea: Don't match - coordinate!
Especially with groups - try choosing colour palettes and hues that the participants can choose from like shades of blues and pinks, or blues and yellows etc. (no white shirts and jeans please!).
Try wearing neutrals, earthy or pastel colours - they look gorgeous on photos.
If you want, try to make a Pinterest board compiling different outfits that you like for some inspiration.
Lastly, here are 5 practical tips to prepare for a shoot:
Make sure to start moisturizing your face and lips a couple of days before the shoot. Contrary to popular belief, chapped lips aren't so sexy hehe.
Get proper sleep and drink loads of water in the days leading up to the shoot. We want you to look and feel bright and happy!
If you'll be wearing glasses or using props like a cellphone, tablet or laptop, please make sure to wipe them clean of any dust or finger smudges properly before the shoot.
Make sure to wipe off any hairs from your clothes (especially if you have dogs or cats).
Try to iron your clothes (if they need ironing obviously) before the shoot, as the camera tends to accentuate these things.
